Have you noticed the pulse of Dappers wearing bow ties on Fridays? Well it might have to do with Jack Jackson’s Ties to Love™’ Campaign.
Ties to Love™’a movement created by Toronto based artist Jack Jackson has been built out of a labor of love for the gender non-conforming and trans community. Its mission is to raise awareness around trans issues whilst creating community ties. Bow tie Fridays runs regular competitions via the Facebook group, offering prizes donated by Alljackedup Inc and other community supporters. We wear our bow ties every Friday to show support and solidarity for the trans community.

I first met Jack when I took a picture of him at the dapperQ fashion show in Brooklyn, unHeeled. For my San Francisco Pride fashion show La Garconne Gala,  taking place at SOMArts June 25th, I immediately reached out to Jack to participate and catch up. Here’s an excerpt from our conversation.

NATALIE COBLENTZ: What are you up to in life?

JACK JACKSON: Working the hardest I’ve ever worked on my two passions -Ties to Love™’and my company Alljackedup Inc

NC: How did you get to where you are today?

JJ: I had a complete career change when I moved to Toronto just over 2 years ago. Made a decision to work on my own terms doing something that I loved to do and wouldn’t have to worry about  feeling judged or false in the corporate world ever again.

NC: How do you feel today?

JJ: I feel the best I have ever felt. It’s amazing what loving your job, your city, your life and your body can do for you. I wouldn’t go back to my old life for any amount of money.

NC: Do you have any advice for the youth?

JJ: Trust yourself, respect your body and to surround yourself with people who love you. Follow your dreams, and above everything, believe in yourself. Sometimes that’s easier said than done when you’re a little different from the masses, but don’t ever tame or tone yourself down for anyone. You were meant to be different.

Traveler by trade, wanderer by nature, this two spirit walks the earth in hopes to live freely and with ease. I am a trained and skilled artist, journalist, musician, photographer, graphic artist, and producer. I come to Oakland to express myself via Wear Your Voice Magazine as the Manager of Mis-Chief - doing everything from events, photography, graphics, and interviews. If I were to be a tattoo, I would be the essence of light depicted in a abstract brilliance of circles and color with a ratio of time mixed in sparkled and sprinkled a little all over my body. I wouldn't be a street in Oakland, I would be an underground tunnel of excitement and interest. My favorite spot in Oakland is the FOX Theater because I love live music.
