Ariel Winter of Modern Family, notably spoke out about her recent breast reduction, and the main reasons why she wanted to have it done. Beyond the bodily pain her larger chest on her smaller framed body caused her, Ariel strongly cited the constant critiques and comments on her body, both from the media and Internet bully trolls, as the unbearable reasons as to why she felt the surgery was necessary.
As quoted in PEOPLE: “It’s hard when you’re a teenage girl and you already have a lot of ridicule and then you pile on more, and it’s kind of…it just gets too much.”
Ariel then went on to discuss the fact that even beyond the media, she had to experience difficulties as the result of her large chest while on set: “They had to hide it on Modern Family a lot. Big sweaters, [or] strapping me down – which is fine – I understand that it doesn’t fit the character they have in mind. I understand that. But it was difficult to do that every day.”
Ariel recently showcased her body on her Instagram, and expressed her happiness with how she felt as well as her thankfulness for all of the support she has gotten.
“It’s amazing to finally feel right,” she told Glamour in a recent interview; “This is how I’m supposed to be.”
Ariel detailed the huge amount of pain she was in before the surgery; so much so she couldn’t even stand up straight.
“It started to hurt so bad that I couldn’t take the pain,” she said. “My neck was hurting so bad, and I actually had some problems with my spine. I had been discussing my chest with doctors for many years, but when I finally said, ‘I’m thinking of doing this,’ he said, ‘Your back is going to thank you so much.’ “
She also further detailed the type of negative attention her breasts and body would garner during and after events: “Every article that has to do with me on a red carpet always had to do with ‘Ariel Winter’s Crazy Cleavage!’ Or ‘Ariel Winter Shows Huge Boobs At An Event!’ ” she told the publication. “That’s all people would recognize me by, not, “Oh, she does great work on ‘Modern Family.’ “
Ariel now declares that she feels happier than she ever has and wanted to share her story to help others:
“It’s something that I did to better my life and better my health, and I think that that can benefit a lot of young girls.”
