As you can see, Madeline, a native of Brisbane, has had an extremely positive impact on social media (and society as a whole) since she was discovered in May. Since then, Madeline has nearly 450,000 fans on Facebook and 68.7 thousand followers on Instagram. Madeline will also be spearheading two new campaigns: serving as the face of accessories brand EverMaya, which has also introduced a line of handbags named after her (five percent of the sales will go to the National Down’s Syndrome Society), as well as contracting with activewear line Manifesta.

Madeline serves as a beacon of positivity for those with Down’s Syndrome, as well as a raiser of awareness for those who may look at those with Down’s Syndrome differently than other people. Madeline also combats other health problems (including three holes in her heart and a loose valve, all of which she manages with heart medication), while staying totally focused on her goal of helping other people who are considered different by society.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Madeline’s mother, Rosanna Stuart, said: “She’s done so well because this isn’t about us. It’s about fighting the fight for all the people out there that are a bit different. She can walk into a room and not judge anyone. I wish I could be more like my daughter.”

We wish more people could be like Madeline too – WYV Magazine congratulates you from the bottom of our hearts, Madeline, you represent EVERYTHING that we stand so proudly for!

Being raised in New England, the west coast has always felt like a breath of progressive, laid-back, open-minded, fashion-forward air to my free-spirited soul, which is what drew me to California. Escaping the more cookie-cutter traditional white picket fence life, has led me on an adventurous journey toward self-love and acceptance, and ultimately body positivity! I am in Oakland, because I moved to the Bay Area for graduate school to become a licensed Somatic Psychotherapist, and after exploring different city options, I discovered that the eclectic, unique, and honest vibe of Oakland resonated with my funky spirit and style! My role in WYV as Senior Columnist is producing weekly articles on Body Positive Fashion, Fat Acceptance, and many of my other passions such as social justice, childcare, and chronic illness advocacy. Of course I'm constantly being inspired by my very diverse (fashionably and otherwise) Oakland peers, local business owners, and fat/body positive activists!
