The Democratic National Committee (DNC), an irksome institution that has parroted as antiracist, is persistent in how it seeks to continue white supremacy.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) proved with the Iowa Caucus that BIPOC are not equal nor worthy members of the electoral process.
The Iowa Caucus, in short, was ripe with corruption. Glaring signs include the development of an app to count votes and to determine delegates by a company headed by a cabal of former Hillary Clinton campaign staffers and Pete Buttigieg’s senior strategist’s wife as well as the Buttigieg campaign’s own contributions to the development of the same phone app.
The app, created by a company most ominously named Shadow, of course, crashed—delaying results by four days. In that time, Pete Buttigieg declared victory. This preemptive declaration, which had not been based in confirmed data, resulted in a 9 point boost for Buttigieg in New Hampshire Caucus polls.
The Iowa Caucus also demonstrated example after example of rounding errors, which tended to award Buttigieg more delegates, while hurting fellow nominee Bernie Sanders. Sanders won the Iowa Caucus by nearly 6,000 popular votes but tied Buttigieg in the number of awarded delegates. How? The DNC’s contempt for BIPOC voters.
Sanders’ campaign engaged otherwise neglected parts of Iowa, specifically “pockets of the state [that] boast relatively high numbers of nonwhite residents”—as opposed to the 90 percent white Iowa that other campaigns vie for.
Satellite caucuses, “established this year to be more accessible and inclusive of all Iowans,” accommodate a wide range of persons. From Spanish language satellite caucuses to satellite caucuses held at mosques, Sanders’ team rendered important and visible the support of persons intentionally left in the periphery of the electoral process.
The Iowa Democratic Party and the DNC undermined the participation in or the turnout of a satellite caucus by instead awarding “satellite SDEs in direct proportion to county delegates”—costing Sanders a clear cut victory.
The Iowa Caucus is over, but another alarming fact has been unearthed: a former Buttigieg organizer, as of January, is now the Voter Protection Director for the Nevada Democratic Party. The Nevada Caucus will be held on February 20, 2020.
The Democratic National Committee, an irksome institution that has parroted as antiracist, is persistent in how it seeks to continue white supremacy.
Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote from the Birmingham Jail that the “stumbling block” to Black liberation is not “the white Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice.” The Democratic National Party is the party of the white moderate, or those that perform antiracism or equality but do not recognize that “injustice must be rooted out by strong, persistent and determined action.”
The Sanders campaign has been able to enjoy the popularity or the victory that it presently has as a result of how BIPOC voters have mobilized behind his vision. His politics are not perfect, but he seems to be a preferred choice of voters that have been largely bypassed by the white supremacist capitalist patriarchy or the establishment. The measures taken to undermine his campaign’s momentum are also measures to ensure that BIPOC remain under the oppression that they seek to cease.
What transpired in the Iowa Caucus only reiterates that BIPOC are to be overlooked. The only vote that will matter to the establishment is the white vote.
