25 festival looks

Check out these amazing outfits for a bit of festival inspiration and a reminder that festivals are for ALL people.

Festival season is coming! From Coachella to Essence, Afropunk to Pitchfork, Sasquatch to Hardly Strictly, there’s tons of amazing music to hear, people to meet and art to experience. Festivals are slowly becoming more accessible as conversations about access begin to happen. However, you wouldn’t think so if you looked at the way these festivals are marketed.

Music isn’t just for thin, able-bodied, upper middle-class white people. In fact, before festivals became more mainstream, they were often the most cost-effective way to sample the most art and music at once.

As Coachella kicks off this week, we thought it would be a great opportunity to visit some amazing festival looks for femmes of all shapes and abilities.

2. Dark Floral

Funky sunglasses? Check. Dark Floral? Check. Margot Meanie and her bestie Michelle of Witch Way Magazine are totally ready to go in these gorgeous breezy looks.

3. Kaftan Glam

The always-gorgeous Ivory Jinelle simply does not miss a look, as evidenced by her flawless Instagram and fashion blog. Last summer, she rocked a perfectly bronze bohemian glam look poolside at the Golden Confidence Pool Party in Los Angeles and the look is STILL fresh and beautiful. Try it out at the next music festival.

4.  Bohemian Lace-Ups and Layers

Australian babe Ruby Allegra shows us how to rock the bohemian lace-up look along with a maxi skirt full of colorful layers. The result is perfectly festival-ready and easy to wear.

5. Monochromatic Makeup

The monochromatic look is super in this season with it expected to carry us through the entire 2017 year. Pick a color that you love and play with it across your lids and lips.

7. Fringe Love

Keep it super cool and casual with a tank, flares, and a long fringe vest reminiscent of the Summer of Love and the original music festivals.

8. Psychedelic Co-Ords

Plus-size model Dandridge shows us just how to rock this amazing psychedelic coordinating two-piece look that it PERFECT for an outdoor music festival.

9. Pastel Eyes

Erika Lipps rocks this gorgeous pastel eye with Milk Cosmetic’s “Mermaid Parade.” Try it yourself for a super pretty glam look.

Jasmine Infiniti and Gitana La Bamba rock their super sexy BDSM and lingerie details with these club outfits. Take it out of the club and into the daytime for a sexy festival look.

11. Boho Casual

This super-easy-to-wear look was Fashion Alec/Victoria Rathweg’s go-to look for the Austin City Limits Festival. Sensible footwear, chub-rub-proof pants, and protection from the sun are some of the high points of this boho casual outfit.

12. Kawaii Meets Punk

This adorable My Little Pony Dress is playful and fun, yet somehow looks simultaneously hard and cute amidst Laura’s beautiful tattoos. Not to be missed: check out those amazing sunglasses, adorable hair bow, and killer choker.

13. Rocker Queen

Hentai Hunny/Shameless Cr3ature’s Natalie Johnson does rocker queen like no other. Take her formual: bit of leather, fishnet, mesh, and lace-up details pair with boots and perhaps a great pair of shades and a broad brimmed hat to protect from the sun and you’ve got your rocker queen look for the show.

14. Keep Cool In A Bathing Suit and Cover-Up

When your bathing suit “cover up” is as badass as this mesh dress and your suit is this cute, you would be doing the world a disservice by not sharing. Check on these amazing sandals and sunglasses, too! Cee Sando rocked the Dinah Shore Weekend with this amazing outfit.

15. Snarky T-Shirts and Tanks

This “Joy of Pussy” shirt makes a much stronger case using a familiar logo after the recent Pepsi ad. Top it off with a bold choker and a baseball cap for both style and shade. Proudly show your curves as you are.

16. Grunge Goddess in Crushed Velvet

Natalie channels the perfect grunge goddess look with this velvet slip dress and sensible boots. Beat summer chub rub with a pair of bandalettes, bike shorts, or several generous swipes of runner’s glide between your thighs.

17. Maxi Skirt

My XX-Fly (My Double-X Fly) is a Miami-based blogger whose looks are on fire. Check out these warm separates for a super-wearable, breezy look. Loving the orange sandals!

18. Fresh Face, Bold Lip

Summer heat makes wearing a full face of makeup super hot and uncomfortable. Often, the best look is a burst of summery color on the lips and a beautiful, bare-faced complexion — especially if you have amazing freckles.

19. Keep It Simple

Charlie Brazen keeps it super simple with this adorable kitty print tank and black shorts. Still super wearable and stylish, topping it off with a hat and comfy shoes makes this a festival go-to regardless of gender.

20. Humorously Sacreligious — or Sacre-licious?

Mama Fierce’s (and Wear Your Voice’s) Briana Hernandez is the queen of whimsical prints. Pairing a lot of pizza (because … pizza, of course) and a playful nod to Satanic metal imagery, this CowCow print is the perfect humorous, yet super-wearable, maxi for your next festival.

21. Rainbow Squad

Take these unicorn-inspired looks from the poolside to the desert and anywhere in between. This trio of fantastically dressed babes are fashionista #squadgoals if we’ve ever seen it!

When he tells you to stop being so damn dramatic

A post shared by Dru Presta (@drupresta) on

Sometimes the best look is simple and classic. This all-black outfit topped with a denim jacket and accessorized by a simple black choker is the perfect look for just about anywhere you go. Dru Presta nails it.

23. Burner Beauty

Festivals are a great place to get super creative. Angela Rockwood shows that you can channel your inner goddess while being respectful and not appropriating other cultures in the process, which is often a problem at festivals. She nailed a gorgeous, free-spirited look.

24. Breezy, Wearable Separates

To truly keep it cool at a festival, shade and breathable fabrics are key. These flowy wide cropped pants are a great way to keep plenty of air flow — along with this gorgeous cropped top. The hat may be slightly warm, but it will help to keep your face and shoulders protected from harmful UV rays.

Hey melbourne fashion and plus size fashion scene, I have an issue. I'm sick of the lack of fat women present in your promotions and runways. I wanna see more than big boobs and size 12-14 waists. I wanna see my body represented. Where are the size 18s,the size 20s where's the damn 5XL babes on your runways? Why am I always the fattest babe in the room? Or why arent I getting work with you?? Where at the fat black femmes? The femmes of colour? Where are the fat trans femmes?? Why is the US so much further ahead of us?? It's time shit changed. I'm sick of how white and thin the industry is here. It's time I got modeling work despite my tattoos. Like HIRE ACTUAL PLUS PEOPLE FOR YOUR PLUS CAMPAIGNS don't claim body positivity as a buzz word but not actually support the fat black women running these movements and beginning these movements . How are we meant to know what clothes look like on our bodies if the bodies modeling aren't the size of your customers (ahem @citychiconline ) I'm tired of being talked down to and feeling like an inconvenience for my body. Heres me flaunting my fat femme body in the desert last week with @fatfashion_ its damn time I felt a comfortable in my fat body in the states as I should feel here. #plussizedfashion #melbourneplussizefashion #fatactivism #bodypositivity #plussizemodel
